If I was reviewing this book as if this was the first time that I've read it, I would give it probably four stars. However, in the fifteen or so years since I've discovered this novel, I have read it
AT LEAST twenty times. I love every book in The Death Gate Cycle, but this is one of those books that I love to revisit again and again.
Maybe it's the characters. Even though some of them are supposed to be evil or just background beings, I love every one of them. I can't recall
not liking any character in this book. I don't want to give a spoiler review, but Hugh the Hand is probably my favorite character in this book. If you read it and want to know why afterward (though you probably will), by all means ask me. I'll be glad to break it down for you.
I won't even get started on the plot and action in this book. Anything that I say will just take away from the experience. I suggest you read the book now and not ruin it by looking at reviews or descriptions. Just devour it with a clean palate!
The end leaves you hanging, in a way, but everything is picked back up in the world of Arianus in the fifth book, The Hand of Chaos.
